What Does Counselling Actually Look Like?

For many people, the thought of counselling can feel intimidating.

You might wonder:

“What will I have to talk about?”

“What if I cry?”

“What if I don’t know what to say?”

“What if it’s awkward?”

These worries are completely normal.

The truth is, counselling isn’t about saying the perfect thing or having everything worked out before you arrive.

Some people come with a clear reason for seeking support.

Others simply know they aren’t feeling like themselves.

A counselling session is a space where you can talk openly about what’s going on in your life. There is no pressure to share anything before you’re ready.

Some sessions might involve talking about current challenges.

Some may explore past experiences.

Some may focus on understanding patterns in relationships, emotions or behaviours.

There is no “right” way to do counselling.

My role isn’t to judge you, analyse you or tell you what to do.

Instead, I work alongside you to help you explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and supportive environment.

Many people tell me that one of the biggest surprises is how relieved they feel after finally talking about what’s been weighing them down.

You don’t need all the answers.

You just need somewhere to begin.
